Author: Laura Kaye
Wow! WOW! Laura Kaye, thank you for Nick, and Jeremy, and Shane, and Beckett, and Marz, and Edward. I love all these guys and seriously want to know more about them. I can't wait for the next book of the series!
"She wanted him. It was that simple and that complex."
I was seriously impressed with this book. I usually don't like suspense/mystery novels because I am not patient person, but this book is the exception! I was interested and completely captivated by the story and the characters. I could not stop reading because I wanted to know more and more, and I still want to know MORE!
"But he couldn't deny that Becca's hands had touched him in places that lay deeper that his skin."
Nick was an easy character to fall in love with. Although he was an asshole in the beginning, it was understandable and he redeems himself! I like complex characters and he was not, but that was just another thing I liked about him. I understood his reasons for why he kept certain things from Becca and personally, the things he kept from Becca just added more depth to the story.
"Her honesty, her touch, her very presence settled a blanket of comfort around him like nothing else had this past year.
TATTOOS! If you love tattoos, this book is for you. They didn't play a big role as I thought they would but they were still featured. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't like a hot, tattooed, ex-army character? Jeremy, who is Nick's brother, was a character I unexpectedly really liked. He's a minor character in the book but he left me wanting more.
"God, she was so damn pretty. And the way she looked at him sent him soaring."
Becca was the rock of story! I usually find many faults in the heroine because they are usually weak and very naive, especially in suspense/mystery books like this. She was not. She was easily the strongest character in the book. So many things happened to her and I expected her to just break down or back down, but she didn't. She did breakdown once or twice but it was understandable and, luckily, it wasn't very dramatic. She was easily one of my favorite heroines.
"Eager's my middle fucking name when I'm around you."
As much as I enjoyed this book there were a few things that I didn't like. Hard as it Gets' timeline is very short; everything happens in like four days (more or less). This annoyed me because as much as I wanted to believe that everything was occurring in such a time span-- I couldn't. Also, this book was written in third person, but I found it a little confusing like one moment Becca's feelings were being described and out of nowhere Nick's thoughts were being voiced. I wished there would have been a small transition between the characters.
"I love you so fucking much I can barely breath."
Suspense/mystery books are usually very straightforward and boring, truthfully. This one was not. I actually started laughing while reading it. Jeremy and Nick's banter was absolutely hilarious because it was very believable and when Shane, Beckett, Marz, and Edward get together the book just gets better! I am glad this book was filled with comical relief because without it I would have been disappointed.
"I'm horny. And you're hot as hell. And we're clearly trying to be good. Although, I'm not sure why, exactly. And, anyway, I don't want you to move. Because I like the feel of you."
Seriously, I really enjoyed this book. I saw it on sale on Amazon and was like I need to get you. If the cover is any indication, this book is HOT! It has so many things in one book and it is absolutely worth it! I can't wait to get the next Hard Ink book.
